Waggy Tour Lingo
Hey there fellow golfers! Have you ever played with a group of buddies so often that you’ve developed your own language? Well, if not, you’re missing out on some serious fun! On The Waggy Tour, we’ve been playing together since 2013 and have come up with some pretty hilarious terms that we use on the course. Let’s take a look at some of them:
“What’s the D?” No, no, no, not that kind of D. This is short for “distance to the pin”. But, hey, feel free to use it the other way too, if that’s your thing!
“That might be in BT” BT stands for brown town, which is our way of saying that you’ve hit your ball into the desert, the rocks, or anywhere else that’s not the fairway or rough. We play a lot of desert golf in Vegas, so this term definitely comes in handy.
“What’s the dub doing?” Dub is short for W, which in turn is short for wind. So, if you hear one of your buddies asking this, they’re just wondering what the wind is doing. But, if you want to mess with them, you can always respond with something like “oh, it’s doing the cha-cha slide, haven’t you heard?”
“Looks like that’s in the B” B stands for bunker, but honestly, it could stand for “big trouble” too. And, if you’re like me, you end up in the bunker more times than you’d like to admit. But, hey, at least we have a funny term for it, right?
“Walk it off” No, we’re not trying to be tough guys here. We just like to keep track of feet of putts made, so if you make one, you’ll hear your buddies saying this. And, if you miss the putt, you’ll probably hear something like “well, I guess you’ll have to walk off those extra feet now.”
“Gonna be a big number” Ah, yes, the dreaded big number. This is usually said as we’re giggling at another player having a rough hole. But, hey, we’ve all been there, right? And, if you’re lucky, you might just hear someone say “hey, at least you’re making the game interesting!”
“Sitting up nicely” This is what we say when someone hits
an errant shot, but the ball was found and has a good lie. It’s our way of saying “hey, you got lucky there, buddy.” And, let’s be honest, we all need a little luck on the golf course.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Why do we even need all these terms? Can’t we just speak normally?” Well, sure, you could. But where’s the fun in that? Using our own lingo has become a part of our group dynamic, and it keeps the game entertaining. Plus, it’s a great way to mess with your buddies and make them laugh.
So, the next time you’re out on the course with your regular golfing buddies, try coming up with some of your own terms. Who knows, you might just create the next big golfing slang! And, if you’re lucky, you might just hear us saying “that’s in the W,” which means “that shot was so bad, it’s in the weeds.” But hey, at least we’ll be laughing about it!
